Costa Smeralda
Between Olbia and the Maddalena archipelago lies a coast of granite heads and shallow sandy bays. The rocks often sit just below the surface and are not consistently buoyed. Then there is the traffic: in August some bays hold a hundred boats, and every change of anchorage in a rising wind is an opportunity for damage.

The main season is May to September and berths are among the most expensive in the Mediterranean. Boats stay afloat in winter. The Maddalena archipelago is a national park with its own anchoring rules, and breaches cost money that no policy will refund.
