Madeira
The island drops steeply into the sea; anchoring is barely possible anywhere and the number of berths is limited. Funchal, Quinta do Lorde and Porto Santo are the options. In a south westerly there is surge in the harbours and boats work hard on their lines. Offshore, the wind accelerates around the ends of the island to a multiple of the forecast.

Berths, season and winter storage
The area works year round with berths in the middle price band, but they are scarce and should be reserved in advance. Ashore storage barely exists; boats stay afloat. If you use the island as a staging point, allow two days of weather margin.
