Shetland
Strong tidal streams run between the islands and build a short, dangerous sea against the wind. The harbours are small, yards and spare parts scarce. The season is short, June to August, and berths are inexpensive. Boats winter ashore; the winter gales come off the Atlantic and hit the islands unchecked. Anyone cruising here should carry spares for engine and steering.
