How the place works
Between Australia, New Caledonia and the Solomons lie wide reef areas, many of them poorly surveyed, and from November to April cyclones pass through. The reefs rise steeply out of deep water, and an echo sounder warns too late.
What breaks there
Reef contact on a night passage is the case this area writes most often. A boat on an outer reef in the Coral Sea is practically unsalvageable, which is a constructive total loss.
