How the place works
The Velebit Channel is the bora nozzle of the Adriatic. The mountains dam the cold air, it pours down through the gaps onto the water, and between Senj and Pag lie the highest gusts ever measured on the Croatian coast. The wind sets across the channel axis and the sea stays short and steep.
What breaks there
For many German owners Croatia is the main cruising ground, and most bora damage happens not at sea but in the marina and in open bays. Lines chafe through, cleats tear out, boats slam against piles in their berth. On a charter there is the added problem that nobody is aboard when it starts.
