How the place works

The Lower Rhine carries the densest inland shipping traffic in Europe, and the current runs at several knots. A yacht here is not on a river but on a motorway: meeting push convoys more than a hundred metres long is routine, and their suction and wash reach the bank.

What breaks there

The expensive cases arise at pontoons and marinas, when suction pulls a boat out of its berth, and when crossing ahead of a convoy. Add debris in high water: trunks and pallets you only see once they are at the rudder.

What this means for your policy

Two points belong on the checklist: the liability limit, because a commercial vessel may be involved, and whether flooding and debris are covered without restriction. Anyone berthed on the Rhine should also know what securing the policy requires when high water is forecast.
