St Helena
The island lies eighteen hundred miles from the nearest coast. There is no harbour, only an open roadstead off Jamestown with mooring buoys; you land by tender or ferry service. The swell never stops, and stepping off at the landing steps is where most tenders come to grief.

The anchorage works year round and is inexpensive, because there are only buoy fees. Repair options are practically nil; a serious failure here is a problem that can be solved with what is on board or not at all. Provisioning is possible, spare parts arrive with the supply ship.
