How the place works
At the cape the way between South America and Antarctica narrows to a few hundred miles, and the Southern Ocean swell runs onto shallower ground there. Lows pass through all year, and the window for a rounding is measured in hours, not days.
What breaks there
What happens here is structural damage: superstructure, windows, rig, and in the worst case a capsize. The damage is not the problem; the distance to any help is.
